Nora Schlesinger is a lifelong baker and food lover who, after a prolonged illness, was forced to re-examine her diet and, ultimately, create her own recipes. She shares them on her food blog, A Clean Bake, so that others, too, can avoid feeling deprived or left out around the dinner table.
Nora Schlesinger life shifted drastically after a series of digestive ailments forced her to completely change the way she cooks and eats. Eliminating staples foods like gluten (wheat), dairy, processed foods, and refined sugars was the easy part. The hard part was figuring out what was still on the menu, particularly when it came to dessert.
Nora packs a major sweet tooth and was not willing to give up her beloved treats entirely. She searched the internet for recipes and tips, but since her diet didn’t cleanly align with anything already established, it was impossible to find recipes that didn’t require heavy adaptation, if the right recipe existed at all.
That’s when she started creating her own.
After sharing her sweet and savory “clean” creations with friends and family to glowing reviews, Nora realized how many others out there could benefit from her recipes.
Nora knows firsthand how alienating it is to be the only person at the table not eating the same food as your friends and family, or, worse: sitting in front of an empty plate at dessert! So she launched A Clean Bake to save others with food allergies and intolerances from that experience.
Every recipe on Nora’s site, sweet or savory, has been meticulously tested and signed off on by friends and family with and without dietary restrictions and is intended to be shared and enjoyed by everyone at the table, regardless of what they can or can’t eat!
Nora lives, bakes, and eats in Chicago with her husband and son.
