Dawn Coombs is the creative force behind the Girl Heart Food blog. She is a passionate, self-taught home cook living in Newfoundland with her best friend (who happens to be her hubby) and their furry child, who keeps them on their toes.
Dawn Coombs is a girl that hearts food, aka the blogger behind Girl Heart Food. There’s always something delicious cooking in her home because she and her husband love to cook and eat. As soon as one meal is over, Dawn is thinking about what the next meal will be. The philosophy behind her blog is simple– ‘Eat Well. Cook with Love. Make your Belly Happy.’
Most of the recipes you’ll find on Girl Heart Food are healthy, while others are indulgent (because she LOVES cheese). But the main thing is that the recipes are easy and delicious!
Dawn loves using simple ingredients, that are easily accessible and relatively budget friendly so that people can prepare fuss-free meals that their families will love. In her kitchen, you’ll always find cheese, butter, garlic, onions and pantry staples like beans and lentils. One of her favorite quotes by Julia Child is, “If you’re afraid of butter, use cream.” That one always puts a smile on her face.
Cooking is such a passion for Dawn and being in the kitchen is a happy place. She loves how there’s always something new to learn and try…and having fun along the way!
Dawn enjoys all types of cuisine, but one of her hands down favorite meals is her mother’s turkey dinner with buttery mash, dressing, gravy and all the delicious sides. There’s something so special about that meal and no one can make it like her mother. Her husband makes a mean Bolognese with homemade pasta that she absolutely loves too. Give her pasta with a glass of wine and a hunk of crusty bread and she’s one happy lady!
When Dawn is not testing and preparing recipes for Girl Heart Food, she loves to bake bread just for the pure joy of it. Her grandfather was a baker and she has fond memories of visiting his bakery after school when she was quite young. The smell of freshly baked bread takes her back to those happy times.
When she isn’t cooking you can find her working out, spending time with her family and reading mystery novels.
